How to open the 2003 Audi A4 buttons

Instruction manual AUDI A4
Applies to vehicles: with garage door opener (HomeLink)
Programming a key: Step 1 on the control unit
Switch on the ignition.
Press the two outer buttons in the headlining Fig. 2 until the LED -A- goes out completely (after about 20 seconds). This process deletes the factory-set standard codes and does not need to be repeated to program the other buttons.
Briefly press the button in the headlining that you want to program.
Wait until the LED -A- starts to flash quickly. The programming mode is active for 5 minutes.
Go in front of your vehicle with the original hand-held transmitter of the system with which you would like to assign the button in the headliner.
Programming a button: Step 2 on the radiator grille
Hold the hand transmitter up to the radiator grille of your vehicle Fig. 1.
Now press the hand-held transmitter until the turn signal system of your vehicle flashes. This can take up to 30 seconds.
If the hazard warning lights flash three times, programming was successful. If the hazard warning lights flash only once, the five-minute time limit has been exceeded during programming or the programming has not been successful. Repeat the programming from the 3rd point or select a different distance to the radiator grille.
If the garage door or other systems cannot be opened with the buttons in the headliner despite successful programming, there is a possibility that the system does not work with a fixed code but with an alternating code. Changing code programming must then also be carried out link.
You can program the other two buttons in the headliner according to the instructions above. Start with the 3rd point.
The programmed keys cannot be deleted individually, but only all together. If necessary, reprogram the buttons.
Switch on the ignition.
Press the two outer buttons in the headliner until the LED -A- goes out completely (after about 20 seconds).
Reprogram key assignment
Switch on the ignition.
To reprogram a single button, press the desired button until the LED -A- starts to flash quickly (after about 10 seconds). Release the button immediately. The programming mode is active for 5 minutes.
Proceed to the 5th point.
  • Programming using the buttons in the headliner is not possible with all infotainment systems. In this case, program the buttons as described in Version A Link.
  • The required distance between the hand transmitter and the HomeLink module in the radiator grille Fig. 1 depends on the system that you are programming.
  • Depending on the model of the system, it is possible that you have to release the button on the hand-held transmitter during programming and press it again. Any attempted adjustment position should be held for at least 15 seconds before attempting another position. Keep an eye on the indicators of your vehicle.
