Which pump types are right for us?

Both types of existing water pumps are suitable for creating fountains or waterfalls: submersible and surface pumps. They are selected based on the design and size of the future waterworks. Dive systems are hidden underwater so they are completely invisible and the surface remains outside the reservoir. It is easier to install a submersible pump for the well than a surface pump, but it is more difficult to maintain as you have to dive almost to the bottom to get it.

Features of models for wells

For summer residents, it is easier to buy a whole lot of equipment for the fountain in the store. It includes: a submersible pump, a regulator that adjusts the strength of the water flow, a sprayer and a well head. The instruction shows you how high the current can be in a water structure.

If you buy the pump separately, you first have to decide how you will see your fountain or its height. In order for the jet to rise 1.2 m, you need to buy a device that can pump up to 800 liters per hour. One and a half meter wells require a pump that delivers around 3,000 liters per hour. At the same time, take into account that the optimum for the functioning of the mechanism is the rise of the water to a height of 1/3 the width of the pool or pond. Low power pumps are mostly low voltage pumps. For the operation of the small fountain you need a voltage of 24 V ..

Be aware that the cross-section of the hoses and pipes will affect the performance of the device. The smaller they are, the weaker the water jet at the exit. So put tubing in half an inch for a low capacity system and one inch for a high capacity pump.

Submersible pumps must be placed on a solid foundation to avoid silting up the system.

Install submersible pumps almost to the bottom, but not to the bottom (if it's a pond), but to a brick base, which must be created before the mug is filled with water. The body is completely submerged. The fountain's beam is thrown directly over the device. If you connect a hose, it will be in a different part of the reservoir. It is more convenient to buy the system right away with a tea. You may also want to connect a waterfall to the pump in the future. But even if it's not included in other plans, a T-piece will be needed to pump out water when cleaning the bowl.

Selecting the unit for a waterfall

A conventional water pump, as mentioned above, is suitable for waterfall structures in the pool. However, for ponds and artificial reservoirs, it is better to buy equipment that can pump dirty water. Then the soil and dirt particles that inevitably fall down when the water flows, neither damage the filter nor the entire mechanism. If you have a clean water pump, be sure to install a filter in front of the water inlet.

When is a surface pump used?

Surface pumps for wells and waterfalls are chosen when tall and complex structures are designed or when these water structures need to be connected to a pump. Surface models are in principle more convenient than diving models because they are easier to maintain. However, in the open air, the mechanism cannot be left, which means that it is necessary to mount a special box for it, which will protect the pump and will not look ridiculous against the background of the general landscape. In addition, such devices are noisy during operation, and if you hide them in a container, you will practically not hear any growls.

It should be noted that pumps should deliver large volume and low pressure for waterfalls, and small volume and high pressure for fountains. If you want to pump both water structures with one pump, please state before buying whether this pump can handle two different pressures and volumes at the same time.

Some craftsmen design a makeshift fountain pump. This is a useful activity, of course, but unless you are a professional electrician, keep this in mind: water and electricity in a couple are life threatening. Of course, low-voltage options only pinch in the event of a violation of the insulation, but if they operate on 220V, it is worthwhile to invite a professional to check before installation.
