Manage a member's content in the Xbox Family Settings app

Note: Some features may not be available in all locales.
There are two options for roles in a family group: organizer or member.
The Xbox Family Settings app lets organizers in the family group manage members' game settings and activities on Xbox consoles from their Android and iOS devices. The app includes features that help organizers set computer time limits, content filters, and manage how members can play and communicate with other players.
For more information about managing settings for your family group, see:
Set age restrictions and content filters (2)
Organizers can set an age limit to block inappropriate games, apps, and content for members of their family group. Anything over these age ratings for the content will require approval from an organizer. Here's what organizers can do to manage and view these content limits:
  1. Sign in to the app with an organizer's Microsoft account, and then do one of the following to get the Settings switch:
    • Select the tile for the member's account you want to manage, then choose the icon Settings in the upper right corner of the screen family.
    • Choose the icon Settings at the bottom of the screen family then select the tile for the member's account you want to manage.
  2. Depending on the content you want to manage, choose one of the following tiles:
    • Content restrictions. Choose Allow age-appropriate contentto view or change the age limit you want to apply to the member's games, apps, and other content. Anything over this age limit will require approval from an organizer.
    • Activate Minecraft:
      • If Minecraft is rated above a member's age limit, select the option Allow this game under Activate Minecraft to grant the member an exception to play.
      • Activate Multiplayer so that a member can play Minecraft online with others, even if their account settings block them from multiplayer features.
      • Activate Clubs so that a member can create, join, and pursue clubs, including Minecraft Realms.
Select a child's level of communication (2)
Organizers in the family group can view or change how members can communicate with other players while online. Organizers can also customize whether members can follow other gamers.
  2. Select the tile Social media to view or change how members can communicate with other players while online. Organizers can also customize whether members can follow other gamers.
The app gives organizers a smart way to limit a member's computer time. Plan time slots for how much time a member can spend on Xbox consoles and Windows 10 devices each day.
  1. Select the tile for the member that you want to set a computer time limit for, and then select the tile Computer time out.
  2. Choose under Time schedule the schedule to set daily time limits and allowed time slots.
  3. After you have selected the days of the week, choose a time limit that is available to you every day (e.g. 3 hours per day) and a time span within the time limit per day (e.g. 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.). The app automatically saves these settings for you.
Note For some games, such as For example, free or trial versions, no account login is required to play. This means that a child could play this type of game even if they had computer time limits. To block these types of games, organizers can create a guest key and set offline content restrictions. For more information on using guest keys and offline content limits, see:
