Compensation in the event of quarantine or prohibition of activity

Anyone who is quarantined due to the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) or has been banned from working and suffers a loss of earnings without being sick will generally receive compensation. (ยง56 IfSG)

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the regional associations Rhineland (LVR) and Westphalia-Lippe (LWL) are responsible for the compensation depending on the location of the establishment.

In the case of employees, the employer must pay the compensation for a maximum of six weeks, unless otherwise stipulated in the collective agreement. The amounts paid out will be reimbursed to the employer upon request.

From the seventh week onwards, compensation is paid directly to the person concerned by the LVR Social Compensation Department at the request of the person concerned.

Self-employed people apply for compensation directly to the Rhineland Regional Council.

A prerequisite for receiving compensation is a loss of earnings as a result of a ban on activity or a quarantine (isolation) according to the Infection Protection Act (IfSG).

The request for compensation must be within 12 months after cessation of the prohibited activity or the end of the isolation at the LVR department of social compensation.
