Whether for fun at home or for an interesting classroom project, you can make a Greek replica shield out of cardboard. The Greeks had a standard round shield that is easy to copy and personalize for all ages. A cardboard Greek shield works well as an aid to a history project or as part of a costume. Whatever the occasion, making a cardboard Greek shield is easy and educational.

Draw a large circle on your cardboard sheet. The circle should be approximately 2 to 3 feet in diameter, depending on the size of the person who will be wearing the shield. Use a trash can lid or other round object as a pattern to draw a perfect circle.

Carefully cut out the circle, making sure the edges are as smooth as possible. If you are using very thin cardboard you may need to cut out an extra circle and glue these together.

Personalize the front of your sign with paint, markers, or colored pencils. Search online for specific Greek images for a simple sign, or do it yourself.

Cut out rectangles for arm holders from your scrap cardboard. These should be approx. 30 cm long. Glue the ends to the back of the shield. They should run parallel to each other. Make sure you can slide your arm through the brackets without them falling off or slipping too much.
