Far from the beach - Review of Casa Azul
First of all i would like to say that it was very easy to book the stay via TripAdvisor. We got replies from the owner quickly, and if we had any questions prior to the journey they would reply within a day.
It was a bit tricky to find it at first as the sat nav took us to a completely different street. However, google maps on our phones got us on the right track.
When we arrived we immediately noticed that the beach was now there to be seen.
We traveled with one toddler and 4 adults, and had rented a car for the stay so this was not really a big problem for us. We also rented bikes from a nearby bike hire store (2 min walk away), so we could get around no problem. We did however feel slightly cheated by the description of the house on TripAdvisor.
The house was clean enough when we arrived, but there was not much equipment there for cleaning the floor or the dishes, and the walls in the kitchen next to the bin could have done with a clean. I do stress, however, that the rest of the house was clean. It wasn't any places to hang laundry to dry on either, but we created a make shift laundry line on the roof terrace with some string. Plenty of clothes pegs though.
One other problem we found was the beds. They were like planks of wood. No give in them at all, which resulted in three of us waking up unable to move first thing in the morning for back pains.
The final issue is Otto, the huge German shepard across the street. The owners left him alone much of the day, which made the dog very stressed and loud. He barked at everything that moved. Not Otto's fault, but still not very relaxing when on holiday.
The pool was nice and clean and right next to the house, and our toddler loved it. There were sunbeds there as well.
There were lots of forgotten toys in the boxes in the table in the living area, and also in the little shed outside, which delighted the kid, as it was new to her.
The roof terrace was only used a couple of times, as we found it to be a hassle to walk up all the stairs. Plus not very much shade for a two-year old to hide under. The first floor balcony was never used, as you can only access it through one of the bedrooms. We mostly used the courtyard, as you can put a kind of a roof on it to create shade.
we traveled to Los Alcazares in the first two weeks of September, and it was 30-35 degrees and sunny every day. Mar menor is a lovely place to visit, but I don't think we would go there in the high seasons, as we think it would be too busy.
